Document Metadata

Whenever you create a deliverable, you must define:

  • Document Title
  • Document Subtitle (appears only on the cover page, remove value if not needed)
  • Version
  • Author
  • Author Email Address
  • Modification Date (autogenerated based on the file’s last saved date)

Ideally, define these values right after you open your document for the first time.

Defining Document Metadata

No more hunting around multiple masters with different locations to find and update each value. Instead, the system eases the burden of specifying each of these values, including formula for date so you don’t even need to bother. It’s as easy as steps 1, 2, 3:

  1. Select Type > Text Variables > Define…
  2. Double click a variable to edit
  3. Edit variable Text and click OK

Once the values are updated here, your document’s metadata will be up-to-date, repeated across every page of your deliverable, and you’ll be one step closer to publishing!

TIP: Set up a keyboard shortcut to open the Text Variables dialog.
